MIAMI, Florida (January 21 to 22, 2017): The Race of Champions (ROC) had its 29th iteration for the first time in the USA at the Florida Marlin's Park in Miami, Florida. The very first ROC was held in 1988 at Paris, France and 29 years later, a first ROC in US soil at Miami, Florida at baseball's Marlins Park. Traditionatlly, the ROC is divided into two competitions pitting the world's best racing and rally drivers against each other, going head to head in identical cars: 1. ROC Champion of Champions and 2. ROC Nations Cup. This year was very unique as a third event was introduced: "America versus the World" was added. It is the only event in international motorsports wherein Formula One, Wold Rally Championship, IndyCar and NASCAR drivers all compete against each other at the end of each year under one roof and unique single venue. The 2017 version had Colobian motorsport legend, Mr. Juan Pablo Montoya (2015 Indy 500 winner), won the ROC Race of Champions in his very first appearance at Miami's Marlins Park. He beat out Mr. Le Mans, Mr. Tom Kristenen who appeared in his 5th ROC finale and 14 other drivers total from all disciplines of international motorsports. Also of note, multiple F1 winners Mr. Felipe Massa (despite recently coming out of retirement to take the 2017 Williams seat) and Mr. David Coulthard both made the ROC Champion of Champions semi-finals. Similarly, American drivers Mr. Kurt Busch and Mr. Travis Pastrana (mulitple ROC participant) both reached the quarterfinals of the ROC. Four-time F1 champion, Mr. Sebastian Vettel, failed to defend his ROC championship as he was knocked out of the initial group stages. However, Mr. Vettel, did not come out of ROC Miami empty handed. In the second ROC competitiion, Mr. Vettel defended his ROC Nations Cup title for Germany alone (as Mr. Pascal Werhlein, F1 2017 Sauber driver) was injured during the individual races despite the best efforts of NASCAR brothers Kurt and Kyle Busch. Team Colombia (Juan Pablo Montoya and Gabby Chavez) as well as Team USA (IndyCar drivers Mr. Ryan Hunter-Reay and Mr. Alexander Rossi, both notable for past Indy 500 winners) both made the semi-finals. This was Mr. Vettel's 7th ROC Nations Cup title which is in itself an ROC record. Also of note, former WRC champion Mr. Petter Solberg just beat out Mr. Scott in the decisive final of "America versus the World" sudden death after the Busch brothers put Team America two points into the lead (Team Captain for America: Travis Pastrana, Team Captain for the World: David Coulthard).  This third event was a first for ROC Miami: the Busch brothers were crucial for Team America when they swept 2009 F1 champion, Mr. Jenson Button, therefore entering the final with a 2 point lead for the team. However, as mentioned above, Mr. Solberg's win over Mr. Speed in the grand final led to 3 points for a final tally of 8 to 5 points in favor of Team World. In summary, the final results of the ROC Miami were the following: 1. ROC Champion of Champions: Mr. Juan Pablo Montoya; 2. ROC Nations Cup: Team Germany (Mr. Sebastian Vettel); and 3. America versus the World: World (courtesy of Mr. Petter Solberg's sudden death defeat of Mr. Scott Speed). (All texts and photographs by Rene L.
